Since the project began in August 1997, 73 growers were educated about
the new promising taro varieties through field demonstrations. Forty growers
are interested in converting some of their production to the disease tolerant
cultivars. Currently, eight growers have adopted promising blight
resistant cultivars. A majority of growers have opted to wait for demonstration
field data and for consumer taste panel results before deciding to use
the cultivars.
Performance data was not collected in 1998 due to unusually low rainfall.
