Oriental and Mediterranean Fruit Fly
- Oriental and Mediterranean fruit flies remain within orchards and crop fields. Female fruit flies can often be found probing on ripening fruits. Oriental fruit flies can usually be found at low land elevations, while Mediterranean fruit flies are typically found at higher elevations.
Melon Fly
- Male and female melon fly adults spend considerable time on favored wild hosts and certain crop plants in and outside of crop fields. Corn is a favored roosting host of the melon fly. Additional wild host plants include: castor bean, sudex, spiny amaranth, rattlepod, wild Euphorbia, cocklebur, and sorghum. Typically, males and immature females do not enter weed free crop fields (other than corn). Sexually mature females remain on the favored wild hosts on the border of fields and enter crop fields mostly to lay eggs.
