HOST: ANTHURIUM, Anthurium andraeanum Andre cv. 'UH 1060' and
Ozaki
TARGETED PEST: Anthurium Whitefly: Aleurotulus anthuricola
Nakahara
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
Bioassay tests were conducted from 15 Nov to 20 Dec 1991 on
established plants 'UH 1060' and 'Ozaki' growing in volcanic
cinder media in 7.6 liter bags under a fiberglass greenhouse.
Treatments consisted of four blocks with 10 potted plants per
block arranged in a randomized complete block (RCB). Blocks 1 and
3 consisted of 'UH 1060' and blocks 2 and 4 consisted of 'Ozaki'
cultivar. Tests began when a 100 percent infestation occurred in
all blocks. NTN 0.5%G was applied once and watered after
application. Five weeks after treatment ten scale leaves were
sampled from each block and examined under a dissecting
microscope for live and dead adults, pupae, nymphs and eggs. The
number of live adult, pupae, nymphs, and eggs from ten scale
leaves were pooled for analysis.
RESULTS
NTN 0.5%G significantly reduced all life stages of the whitefly
and was nonphytotoxic to flowers or foliage.
